Devon off to a flying start
Norfolk's Under 13 badminton star, Devon Minnis, got her season off to a flying start by winning the girls singles silver medal at Badminton England's Gold Tournament played at Grantham. Devon comfortably won her first two group games, but then had to face Ireland's no.1, Rebecca Getty. In a match full of long, exhausting rallies lasting over thirty minutes. Devon finally came out on top 14-21, 21-19, 22-20 to reach the semi-finals against Stephanie Dawid-Paluch from Lancashire. This produced another hard fought three set match with Devon reaching the final with a 21-19, 20-22, 24-22 victory. Her final match was against no1 seed, Ira Banerjee. Continuing to fight hard, she narrowly lost the first set 21-18, but then had to concede the match 21-10 in the second set. Devon was well pleased with a silver medal in her first match of the season and is now looking forward to travelling to other tournaments around the country and going one better to get gold.
