Harry and Anuska shine at U11 County Championships
Harry Wakefield and Anuska Damudar swept the board of titles at the U11 County Championships held at Sewell Park School on 17th April.
Harry was in a class of his own winning the final against Adithya Velu 21-13, 21-19, although the second set was close. There was however well fought games in the semi-final where Torbin Swan went out to Harry 21- 5, 21-8 and Oliver Yellop lost to Adithya 21-10, 21- 12. Toby Thompson (9) did well to get 14 and 10 from semi-finalist Torbin Swan.
Similarly in the girls singles, Anuska sealed her win with a passionate battle again her friend and rival Tanisha Nirmala, winning 21-13, 21-19. Again the second set was very close. There were well fought games in the semi-finals where Anuska beat Shraeya Saravanavel 21-10, 21-2 and Tanisha beat Rhianna Hudson 21-16, 21-10.
In the boys doubles Wakefield and Velu partnered up to show their dominance in defeating Yellop and Swan in the final (21-8, 21-9) although David Flannigan and George Le Bon gave Yellop and Swan a run for their money in the semi-final going down 21-9, 21-15. Perhaps the closest boy’s doubles match was the win that Yellop and Swan had over the scratch pairing of Christian Holyoake and Adam Preston 21-17, 21-12 both of whom played well.
The girls doubles was hotly contested with three pairings vying for the title. Anuska Damudar and Tanisha Nirmala defeated the scratch pairing of Freya Small and Kajol Aryal from Lingwood 21-5,21-18 in the final, but who in turn previously had a good win over the 2nd seeds of Saravanavel and Hudson (21-15, 16-21, 21-13). In the boys plate singles event, George Le Bon won 21- 8, 21-10, over Oscar Farquhar and in the girls singles Freya Small beat Kajol Aryal in a closely fought match 14-21, 21-10, 21-17.
In the boy’s doubles plate, Adam Preston and Christian Holyoake beat Harry Jenkins and Jacob Little 21-13, 21-8. Many thanks to all that contributed to make this a successful event.
