Under 17 Championships
The Under 17 County Championship was held at Sewell Park College. In the boys singles, top seed and reigning champion Tom Hinks made it through to the semi-finals alongwith second seed, Sam Dismore, where they met Olivier Widdowson and Ben Tozer, who had both beaten seeded opponents. But it was the two top seeds who reached what was to prove an itriguing final. The initial exchanges were even, but Hinks gradually pulled away to retain his title 15-9. 15-7. In the plate final Josh Kent beat Nico Schilling.
The girls singles provided a shock as the top seed was beaten in the group stage by Katie Witting, who faced Under 15 player, Kathryn Adamson in the final. Adamson won the first set 15-12, but Witting battled hard to take the second 15-13 and then pushed ahead in the deciding set, winning 15-9. Emma Piper won the plate. The girls doubles was played in one group and was won by Adamson and Piper from Witting and Lisa Vickers.
The boys doubles was played in three groups with the winners playing off against each other. The deciding match was a close affair as Hinks and Kent faced Schilling and Tozer. Hinks and Kent took the first set 15-12, but lost the second by the same score. However, Hinks and Kent then regained their composure to win the third 15-9 to take the title.
The Championship ended with the mixed doubles where the two group winners, Hinks and Vickers and Schilling and Adamson faced each other in a splendid final match of the day. The first set was close, but Schilling and Adamson took it 15-13 and then pressed home their advantage to win the second 15-7 to claim the title.
