A sad farewell to Clive Warren

It was with great sadness that Norfolk Badminton learned that Clive Warren, a long-time coach and friend of so many of Norfolk's senior and junior players, lost his fight against cancer on 25th August.

Clive began his coaching career in the early 70s. He qualified as a County coach in 1993 when he became only the second coach in the country to gain the award following Badminton England’s requirement for a stringent long period player study. His pupil was Graham Wells! At about the same time he became Regional coach for Coach Education.

Together with his wife, Coral, who also has top coaching qualifications, they worked professionally at the Norwich Sports Village near Asda (now a Virgin Active fitness centre), organising very popular badminton weekends and spearheading Norfolk's hosting of the English Nationals for several years in the 1990s.  They both coached young Norfolk players to England selection.

Clive's energy and enthusiasm is exampled by an event a couple of years ago.  At the age of 73, he joined many of the top senior county players in a game of rounders during the 30th birthday celebrations of two of his former junior players!

On behalf of Norfolk Badminton, we offer our sincere condolences to Clive's family, he will be dearly missed.

For anyone wishing to contribute, Sandra, Clive's daughter has set up a donation page for Sport Action After Cancer, who supported Clive during his illness.
