County Badminton Report

Norfolk's Kathryn Adamson and Georgia Moyes came away from the Hatfield Under 17s B.E. bronze tournament with two well deserved gold medals. A few days later Kathryn entered her first Silver tournament of the season, following her recent upgrade from bronze,  and won a bronze medal in the doubles, partnered by Bernice Dore from Dorset, following a narrow defeat in the semi-finals (14-16,14-16) to the top seeds, McMorrow and Murray.

Earlier in the week, Moyes and Lauren Mortimer, also from Norfolk, played in the Hatfield Under 15s BE Bronze Tournament and came away with bronze medals, having just lost out in the semi-finals,  to the eventual winners from Surrey, Ip and Sivakumaran. To complete an excellent week for the Norfolk girls, Georgia also progressed to the semi-finals of the singles, to win her second bronze of the day, following another narrow defeat to the tournament winner Ciara Linehan from Northants.

*   The county Under 14s were in Harlow on Sunday to play in the Eastern Region Team Tournament. Their first opponents were a strong Hertfordshire side, who came out on top by five games to two. Norfolk's wins came from Lauren Mortimer in the singles and Robbie Hobson and Sean Lott in the doubles. Next up were Essex who were, again, too hot to handle, emerging 5-2 winners, with Hobson and Mortimer picking up Norfolk's mixed  and Mortimer winning her singles. George Vickers and Lott were unlucky to lose their doubles in three very close sets. The final match was against Suffolk which Norfolk won 4-3. Hobson and Mortimer and Lott and Atti Harrison won two of the three mixed. The singles were shared with Mortimer again coming out on top, with Vickers and Hobson comfortably winning their doubles. Norfolk were represented by George Vickers, Robbie Hobson, Sean Lott. Lauren Mortimer, Kate  Sawyer and Atti Harrison.

*   The Under 17s travelled to Lincoln determined to notch up their first win of the season in their final Shires League match of the season. They started by taking all four mixed doubles games and then followed this up in unbelievable fashion by winning all their singles and level doubles games and securing a 20-0 whitewash over their shell-shocked opponents. What a way to finish a season! Enjoying their last match were Kathryn Adamson, Georgia Moyes, Emma Piper, Katie Witting, Sam Dismore, Tom Hinks, Ben Tozer and, enjoying his county debut, Tom Smith.
